digital card memory capacity
Is a SDHC memory card compatible with my laptop?
Because I have no idea. My laptop runs Windows XP SP2, Media Center Edition. The memory card slot on the side has this inscribed above it: SD/SDIO/MMC. I was hoping to just buy a 6-8GB memory card for storage, as it would be better than flipping through a dozen different data cds. I’d rather not have to also buy a reader just so the memory card and laptop can communicate.
I also have a Kodak EasyShare C633 camera, and some sort of Polaroid digital camcorder (don’t remember the exact version). Both only say SD/MMC on them, and the same in their instruction manuals. However, the manual for the Polaroid only specifies 1GB and smaller capacity memory cards, yet my 2GB memory card works for both the camcorder and camera.
So….to sum up: SDHC compatible with laptop? SDHC compatible with camera/camcorder? Help greatly appreciated.
Nearly all device produced over 6 months ago will not use the new SDHC format. The maximum memory that a camera made before this time will use is a 2GB SD card. If your device can use SDHC then it will definitely specify this in the handbook. It’s a similar story for your card reader in the laptop. You will need to purchase a seperate SDHC USB card reader as nearly all built in card readers can only read standard SD rather than SDHC.
