store batteries
Is it okay to store batteries in the or the freezer?
I have a Sanyo rechargeable NiMH battery and i was wondering if i am able to store it in the refrigerator. I heard that rechargeable batteries lose life if stored at warm temperatures and i live in a hot place. So i was wondering if it a safe thing to store it in a refrigerator or a freezer. Is it going to explode or get damage or get wet? And if i am able to store them in the refrigerator/freezer, will i be able to use it immediately.
Its one of those new types of rechargeable batteries and mines called Eneloop.
Storing batteries in the freezer won’t hurt the battery. But I would make sure they are sealed in a plastic bag to prevent possible contamination of food. You won’t be able to use the battery right out of the freezer for a couple of reasons. The battery will cause condensation when it is cold and if it is in some device the water may cause damage. Also, batteries work by chemical action. Lowering the temperature of the chemicals will slow down the reaction and reduce power. If you have every been in a cold climate and tried to start a car you will have noticed the car doesn’t turn over as fast. This is because the battery is cold, as well as the lubricants in the engine. It might be easier just to charge the batteries right before you use them.
