Can an electric car battery be completely Eco-friendly?
I know that car batteries use up energy to make and use. But if the energy in our country was switched from coal to wind and/or solar, the battery was made using recycled parts, the battery was made with no toxic chemicals (this is possible), and it was recycled when it stopped working would the battery be completely Eco-friendly? Or would it still release things into the environment and if so is their a way around this?
There are compromises. Charging the battery requires use of electricity which is generated by fossil fuels, or nuclear fuel, or by dams that caused changes in the environment. Solar cells cannot do the job yet. Their product has its problems.
The plastics in the car came from petrochemicals. The metals in the car were mined. They theoretically caused harm to the area of the mines and/or to the workers. The equipment and factories used to make plastic and metals probably caused some pollution.
The rubber in the tires are from petroleum and rubber.
The batteries can be recycled, but even their processing can contribute to pollution.
I am not putting down the concept of a totally electric car, but they have problems too.
