secure digital card writer

I am going to France and I plan on taking an extensive amount of pictures- what should I bring? Memory card?
I am buying a new digital camera; it is a Kodak Easyshare M863 8.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Red). I found a very good deal on it, and I thought it was a very good camera.
My question is this: what would be a more ideal purchase?
On Amazon.com a Sandisk 4GB Secure Digital SD HC Memory Card is 4.95$. It is just a single memory card. However, there is a Sandisk 4GB Secure Digital SD HC Memory Card that comes with a BlueProton USB 2.0 Card Reader Writer for 8.95$.
If I were to go with just the single memory card, I would be purchasing three of these, and if I bought the memory card with the card reader I would still be in need of more memory cards.
What are the benefits of a card reader? I have never had one and do not know exactly what they do.
And: are different memory cards better? I’ve only ever used SanDisk, but I saw Transcend as well. Is there a plus to either?
1st off, I have 350 pictures in one file on my computer that take up 80mb, do you really think you’re going to need 3x 4gb memory cards? They’re 5$ anyways, so it doesn’t really matter unless your taking a couple thousand pictures.
Unless you have a USB cable for the camera, you wont need the card reader. I find them to be more of a hassle to use anyways. Its basically a small external unit that is hooked up via USB, and you take the memory card out of the camera, and slide it into the card reader, where as with a usb for the camera, it plugs in directly to your PC, without having to take the memory card out of the camera. A card reader is meant for people that may have more than 1 kind of memory card
Not much difference in memory cards here, just different brands, couldn’t tell ya much about them cept they all do the same thing.
