secure digital card speed
how long can i record a movie on a 2gb sd card?
i want to buy the Transcend 2GB Secure Digital it has speed of 150x. could anyone tell me what the speed means. like how many mb’s will be transfered per second.
The speed of the card has nothing to do with how much video you can shoot, but it WILL help the camera to run much faster and smoother, especially when shooting high quality ‘videos’.
So, what size card you have and how much video you can take on a 2GB card…all depends on the make of camera you have…and how much it compresses the video that it shoots.
Canon cameras are well known for having high quality ‘movies’ on their digital cameras because they don’t compress the video so much…and that is why you will get an average of only 8 minutes of high res. video per 1GB (which equates to roughly 1.7MB per second).
Other brands of camera might highly compress their video and get maybe 15-20 mins of video per 1GB…but the quality will not be as good and you will see quite a few compression artifacts.
Also, make sure your camera can recognise a 2GB card…because some slightly older models have a 1GB card limit.
Your user manual should be able to tell you the card size limit and how much video it can record.
