Lost digital pictures by changing settings on a Canon Powershot S5 IS?
I just bought a canon powershot S5IS and am using a 2GB SanDisk Secure Digital SD Memory Card. Twice now, I have lost pictures on the memory card when I go to play with the menu settings. I cannot remember what triggered the problem the first time but the second time, I took around 300+ pictures and then changed the format from low quality to higher quality and then voila… I lost all the pictures. Never did I get a warning message that the pictures may be deleted. Is this normal? What am I doing wrong? Has anyone had this problem? wonder if this is a problem with the camera or with the memory card?

thx for the responses. I inserted the memory card into my laptop’s SD reader… I still did not see these pictures… wouldn’t there be a message that the digitals images are about to be deleted? I for sure have learned my lesson to download every day!
the convar program is free and it does reclaim the deleted images. im baffled too about this as i have never known a camera to just delete pics by changing the resolution or w/o reminding you it will do so.
