Why The World Needs Battery Recycling
Energy and energy consumption has become the moot point of human survival today. Today, batteries are a type of alternate energy that we use. Many individuals consider batteries to be waste and in fact throw them away in the general dustbin. However, this very wrong, because batteries have a heavy metals that are toxic, like alkaline, nickel metal hydride, nickel cadmium and lead acid.
These heavy metals, though important for the working of the batteries cause a lot of issues with the environment if discarded with the garbage. The heavy metals cause a contamination that may affect the landfills, lakes and streams and streams, etc. due to this reason, the proper disposal or recycling of batteries is quite important. Therefore, it is very important to ensure that the batteries are recycled. Most of the batteries that we use can be recycled. When we go through it, some kinds of batteries are recycled more than the other kinds of batteries. More than ninety percent of the lead acid automotive batteries are recycled. Also, most of the button cells are also recycled. Along with these types, one can also recycle rechargeable as well as alkaline batteries.
The lead acid batteries that are usually recycled are the car batteries, UPS batteries, motorcycle batteries, commercial batteries and the batteries that are used in the industrial fork lift. Silver oxide batteries are the most dangerous, because they contain mercury. If the batteries are not recycled or destroyed in the proper manner after their lifetime, they may begin to leak mercury to the nearby atmosphere. This can be considered to be a serious health risk. They are normally recycled by shredding the batteries and retrieving the mercury that is used in them.
With the seriousness of battery toxicity being now understood, some countries have special commercial stores that allow batteries to be sent to them either for recycling or destroying. Some countries also allow batteries to be wrapped in a plastic bag or a strong box to be posted free of charge to the major battery cell manufacturers for recycling.
Battery recycling is a very important aspect that should be taken care of immediately and urgently. The contamination that the non recycled battery that has lived its lifespan is responsible for is so immense that today many countries have made battery recycling compulsory for battery sellers who sell a particular amount of batteries per day. The contamination that batteries create is a problem that can be solved only with grassroots solution like even the manufacturers and sellers taking up the onus of battery recycling.
