Original Battery
Is it OK to charge my generic brand battery in the Canon charger that I got with my original battery?
My camera came with its brand name battery. I got a generic battery for extra. Can I use the Canon charger for it as well?
Yes, and no.
Their newest battery (for Canon 5D Mark II), has some sort of “chip” inside. A generic one can only be charged with a charger (that comes with it) and not with the OEM one. An OEM battery cannot be charged with a generic charger either.
p.s. They don’t say it’s going to blow up, but I don’t want to the first to find out.
