CMOS Battery replacement?
What is the typical life of CR2032 Lithium CMOS battery on a Core2Duo (1,8Ghz) Processor on a INTEL DG965RY Original MB.How does one usually get to know, when the battery needs to be replaced ?
Most CMOS batteries have a life expectancy of 5-10 years. The main thing that will cause them to go bad sooner is long periods of no power to the motherboard. As long as the computer is plugged in, the battery has little to no power drain; however, when the computer is not plugged in (or the power strip is turned off), the battery is being drained to keep the CMOS settings.
Generally, the indication of a bad battery is when the computer’s clock loses time. When the battery is low enough, the computer will not “remember” the time/date, what drives are connected, how much memory is in the system, etc.
