What is proper laptop battery maintenance?
Is it ok if you leave the battery in your machine while it’s plugged into an outlet? OR should you take it out? Does it charge while it’s in your machine?
This is what I was planning to do…
Take the battery out of the machine while it’s plugged into an outlet.
Use the battery if I have no electrical outlet.
Put the battery in to charge when it’s plugged into an outlet, if I have used the battery previously.
It’s a six cell. Also, how long do they tend to last?
Your need to minimize the amount of cycles you make your battery go thru in order to get the best of it.
A cycle = 1 discharge and 1 recharge.
That basically answers all your questions. You should charge your battery and remove it once it’s full, only use the battery if you’re on the move, otherwise, keep your computer plugged and the battery (fully charged) out.
Do not keep the battery empty for a long time. The chemistry in it (Lithium ion) doesn’t like that.
Also just so you know, no matter if you follow this rule all the time, your battery will lose some of its capacity with time. I agree with some people that say about 15% to 20% of the capacity of your battery will decrease over a year…. so after 2 years 1/2…. your battery will die twice faster…. no matter what.
