Evanger’s Pheasant and Rice Dry Food?
I recently purchased some canned game meats from Evanger’s to supplement my Nutro Natural Choice. However, I really want to get away from Nutro and in the Evanger’s box was a sample for their pheasant and rice dry food. My dog seems to like it so I bought a bag to try out. I have tried Canidae, Innova, Eagle Pack, Natural Balance, and Nature’s Variety dry foods and he either won’t touch them (Eagle Pack and one variety of NB) or has had bad reactions to them (developed a reaction to Canidae and had severe diarrhea with NB Ultra Premium). NOTE: I cannot feed homecooked or raw. Has anybody fed it or have comments about it?
I have tried a grain free food (Raw Instinct by Nature’s Variety). I have even tried NV’s raw frozen diets.
My hunting retriever will stay on Canidae since she does well on it and currently lives with my folks while I’m in school.
I haven’t tried it but I have a suggestion for you. Try something that is 100% grain free. That means no rice as well. He may be sensitive to grains. Something with a single source of protien wouldn’t be a bad idea either. I also recommend you start a journal of places you go, things he eats (treats and grass are included), how much he eats, and ingredients in the things he ate. Maybe you can find out what is causing the problem. If he is becoming sensitive after a time of doing well on the food then I recommend changing foods monthly or bi-monthly. It’s not done for normal dogs but some dogs become allergic to anything they are on for an extended period. To avoid that their owners must switch food constantly.
