How many pictures will my sandisk extreme III 4gb hold?
I shoot with a Sony Alpha 300, 10.2 mega pixels. I’m trying to figure out when I should move on to my next card. Right now, I have about 627.
You should move to your next few cards.
To get the most from your camera, you need to be shooting at your camera’s highest resolution. With a camera with a 10 mp sensor that might mean that if you are using your 4 gb card you will only get 668 JPEG files. If you do like many advanced amateurs and pros, shoot RAW + JPEG, the number will drop to 220 or less.
This does not have to be a problem, since you are copying your image files to the computer and formatting the card so it is ready to be filled with more of you fine work. But you will find, carrying around at least four extra cards will give you the freedom to continue shooting after you fill the first, second or third card on a particularly long hike or trip.
With 4 GB memory cards costing under $15 each, there is no need to skimp
