Is there much difference between Optima marine batteries and a cheaper brand of marine battery?
I found Optima deep cycle marine batteries online for around $170 and the Everstart deep cycle marine batteries at Wal-Mart for $72. Is it really worth the price difference? I will only be using the battery for a trolling motor and a small depth finder on a small boat.
One of my boat storage customers put two Optima batteries in his fishing boat, and doesn’t like them at all.
He told me they were difficult to charge, and one had to be returned due to a bad cell. He also told me that if the company will take them back both would be returned and he would go to standard deep cycle batteries.
After hearing that story my recommendation would be to stick with the Everstart battery at Wal-mart. You can get two batteries for less than the Optima.
