digital card recorders

how do i set up my xp media center pc to act as a TiVo or digital video recorder?
i’m pretty sure there’s a way to do it, but my OS didn’t come with instructions (yes, it was legitimately bought from tiger direct). i have an ATI all-in-wonder 9800 graphics card with a cable input, and i have plenty of hard drive space (100gb+). could anyone shed some light on this?
Have you installed the OS? You will also need an MCE encoder. You can google “MCE encoder”. There are several sources including Roxio and mainconcept. I believe that you can download the Roxio and try it. Many of the ATI AIW cards are not fully compatible with MCE. The video card portion is, but the tuner is not. I suggest you double check with them to confirm that your card is fully compatible. Setting up the TV recording is pretty straightforward. If you’re already past the foregoing, email me and I’ll respond with instructions. MCE has many features which I’m very happy with, and some limitations Im not. Good luck.
