I have a dell destop that am fixing for someone and the bios date it dated 1999 and it won’t detect his 120gb
The bios date on the dell desktop is dated 1999. I have a hard drive with windows on it and I have a hard drive just for backup and the hard drive is either 120gb or 100gb. If I put the bigger hard drive byitself it still won’t work. It detects it as a different hard drive in the cmos other then what the brand name is. It’s a Maxtor hard drive and it says something like Eidie or something like that. I even tried changing the jumpers but nothing no luck with that either. I was wondering what if I use the hard drive cd it came with and set it up from there see if it will let it boot up then.
If your motherboard bios does not have an update, then you will be out of luck in installing anything bigger than a 40gig.
First you need to find out and match the bios exactly because if you mess it up, all you’ll have is a motherboard to make key chains from.
