Will putting a car battery on concrete really drain the charge out of it?
Yes. The reason is that concrete has lime in it, which has a basic pH, and it slowly neutralizes the cations(positively charged molecules) that are yielded from the reaction of the sulfuric acid. The cations are necessary as an opposing charge for electron flow. The plastic casing of the battery makes a proper sealed environment and resists the corrosive chemicals it contains, but is not sufficient as an insulator to prevent this effect. A piece of scrap wood or thick corrugated cardboard underneath it will protect it.
