Making sodium from sodium chloride procedure?
I really want to make pure sodium, but I can’t get into a chemistry lab until august. I can’t figure out a way to keep it in oil while the experiment is going on. I was thinking to have the molten salt in oil, but that would only work if the salt was more dense. Would a boat battery work?
Would this procedure work? Or do you guys know of one that would?
Also, does it matter if it the salt is iodized?

As I understand the procedure you would need to melt the salt and then electrolyze it. I remember reading about calcium chloride being added to reduce the melting temperature. Don’t forget that along with separating the sodium you will also get a lot of chlorine gas. Very dangerous.
