charging dc batteries
Thanks jeh_9211,question no_2 is when charging by solar what are the connections like?
If i was to charge 2 dc batteries using solar what is the best method for connecting the terminals.This actually happened to me because i tried to connect the positive from battery 1 to positive battery 2 and negative to negative for battery 1 and 2.Its the jumpers i used the started heating.Is it safe to connect using series or parallel using solar power?
What i think you are asking is if you can connect two batteries in series or parallel for charging.
“connect using series or parallel using solar power” solar power doesn’t make the connection.
If you connected them in parallel, and the wires got hot, that means either the batteries are not the same voltage, or one was charged and the other was discharged. The wires got hot because one was charging the other.
If the batteries are in the same state of charge and are the same in voltage and size, you can connect them in parallel and charge them that way. If you want to isolate them because they are different size or state of charge, you can use two diodes for that.
If they are different voltages, you cannot connect them in parallel.
In series, if they are the same size (current capacity), you can put them in series. But your solar array has to have enough voltage for this. But this can lead to overcharging one while undercharging the other.
