Need For Relocating Car Batteries
Car batteries are lead-acid storage batteries equipped in an automotive and is fondly known as the heart of the car’s electrical system. The key function of the battery is to deliver power and torque required for starting and igniting the car engine. Furthermore, these are also used to operate electronic car accessories when the required power exceeds the specified limit.
In any vehicle, car batteries are normally fitted with the car engine in the bonnet of the vehicle. This placement of the battery usually puts in more pressure to the front wheels of the car and hampers car performance. Heavy weight in the front disturbs the working of the rear wheels and reduces the total output of the car engine. This is why, many people especially racers relocate their car batteries.
Many racers and performance enthusiasts discovered that relocating the car battery at the back of car seat or in the trunk helps to achieve a perfect weight distribution. Improving the static weight distribution eventually improves traction control and delivers higher stability on roads.
Car manufacturers like BMW often place batteries under rear seat to ensure improved weight distribution and cornering capabilities. It also has an aesthetic significance as it gives a clean and neat look to the engine compartments.
Steps to Relocate Car Battery
Here are some of the essential steps to relocate the car battery:
- Disconnect the battery form the engine compartment and put aside.
- Route the negative cable from the front of the car. Before doing that ensure to remove the car rear seat, backrest sections, and door step panels so that routing becomes an easy task.
- Poke a small hole in the boot or the rubber connector just above the brake pedal. Pass all the cables through that hole and route them to the trunk of the car.
- Further secure the battery box in the trunk by drilling holes through the bottom of the car trunk and fixing it using screws.
- Secure all the wire connections to the battery and make sure that all the wires run through same path as the existing wires.
- Look for some hidden spot in the trunk and scrape away the paint. Connect the positive cable to this hidden spot.
- Connect the other end of the positive cable to the positive terminal.
