Can a guitarist pick up violin?
I’m bored, and in my later years I’ve thought about picking up the violin.
I’m an accomplished ( ahem ) guitarist of over 40 years, who still plays out professionally.
Would it be much of a learning curve to pick up the violin, and I’m wondering about decent starter instruments that won’t cost me a second mortgage.
My background is Beatles, Byrds, Kinks and Ventures, and the band I’m in does some original songs that would benefit from some tasty violin work.
Am I kidding myself, or should I go back to working on those hot chicken pickin’ Danny Gatton and Hellecaster guitar licks?
I teach orchestra and have several guitar students also play violin very well.
I would look at Eastman violins–even their student models (like the Samuel eastman 80) and good beginner instruments.
I would have a string teacher put pinstriping on the violin so you’ll know where to place your fingers when you start–kind of like the frets on a guitar
