any tips on how to teach myself to learn to play the guitar?
my sis just went off to college, and she has an acoustic guitar that she never really used and left at home. i really want to learn how to play the guitar, but i cant get a tutor, because my family’s a little tight on money. my sis also has 3 song books for guitar: 2 jack johnson, 1 the beatles. i have never played the guitar before, but i know a few chords on the ukulele, and i can read music. any tips that would make learning the guitar any easier? thanx!
Don’t listen to any of that “Just pick one up and start” bullcrap. That wont’ do anything for you. Music, just like everything else has base fundamentals that make things much easier to learn once you get them down.

This website is extremely handy and helpful with learning chords, and finding songs that you actually ENJOY playing to get you motivated (Who wants to learn folk songs from the 1800s? Everyone wants to be able to play their favorite radio hits.)
And don’t doubt anyone when they say that playing regularly makes a difference. I try to play about thirty minutes to an hour every day after work, and it helps.
