Paul McCartney’s first performance at the Hollywood Bowl occurred when The Beatles performed here in August of 1964, and once more in 1965. These concerts were recorded for a live album which didn’t come out till 1977. Paul McCartney has announced the first two dates of his Up and Coming tour, which is set to get underway next month.
The ‘Up and Coming’ tour then hits the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 26th June, his first live show in Wales for 31 years. McCartney finishes his tour headlining at Hard Rock Calling at Hyde Park in London on 27th June. McCartney insisted that “it’s always brilliant to play for the home crowd and these dates are ones that myself and the band are really excited about”.
EMI recently revealed that it needs to raise more than £100m from investors to prevent it from breaching its banking arrangements with US lending giant Citigroup. McCartney’s first UK and Ireland appearances of 2010 will begin with a show in Dublin on June 12, followed by a headlining appearance at the Isle Of Wight Festival, and continuing with dates in Scotland and Wales. The shows will feature songs from Cartney’s Beatles, Wings, and solo career, including tracks from The Fireman’s 2008 album Electric Arguments. Other celebrities rumoured to take part in the show, which returns in January 2010, include Sinitta and ex-England goalkeeper Peter Shilton. McCartney, 67, has only played a handful of UK shows since his last tour in 2003, including a headline slot at the Glastonbury musical festival in 2004 and a performance at the European Capital of Culture show in Liverpool last year. The seven-date jaunt comes in the wake of several shows staged by McCartney in North America earlier this year.
