Take A Trip To Retrace The Beatles
When four Liverpudlian lads formed a band in the 60s, the history of music changed forever. The Beatles went on to become one of the most influential bands in the social and pop movements of the 60s and continue to remain popular now, nearly five decades later. Many fans from all around the world may have relinquished true Beatlemania, but are still keen to witness some of the landmarks and areas that so inspired the band in their early years.
Retracing the steps of the Beatles may sound like an impossible task when you think of the many tours and overseas jaunts the band took over the years, but the Beatles enjoyed their early years close to home and any Beatles fan can enjoy the chance to see some of the most famous clubs and sights connected with the band.
The first place for any fan hoping to retrace the steps of the Beatles is the streets of Liverpool.
The earliest incarnation of the Beatles saw the now infamous John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and of course Pete Best (later to be replaced by Ringo Starr) finding their feet in the musical landscape they were set to change forever. An early additional member, bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, left the band after a short period of time and the Beatles continued to refine their sound in Liverpool and Hamburg for the first few years. There are a large number of guided walks in Liverpool that can show fans around highlights such as the Cavern Club – the venue in which the Beatles’ popularity blossomed.
A range of exhibitions are also on offer in Liverpool, such as The Beatles Story, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the feeling of the times. Many also like to pay a visit to Penny lane, the street in the band’s hometown that inspired the popular song of the same name.
Quickly gaining in popularity, the band had its first recording session at the now iconic Abbey Road Studios in London and the album went on to enjoy a number one spot in the British chart. It was a sign of things to come, and the band topped charts consistently over the following decade. The studio was later immortalised in the album Abbey Road. This London sight is another ideal destination for anyone hoping to chart the UK history of The Beatles for themselves.
By booking hotels in Liverpool and London and setting out with some Beatles literature, retracing the story of the Beatles can be an amazing experience for any fan of the fab four.
