The Lure of Sir Peter Blake
Sir Peter Blake remains at the forefront of Pop Art in Great Britain. Work by this established artist always sells out quickly and is collected by a great number of renowned art lovers and celebrities.
Blake first found fame in the swinging pop era of the 1960’s, although he had studied art at the Royal Academy until 1956. Blake then traveled; during this time he began to become inspired by culture and found items. Blake created many paintings in the vein of Pop Art before Andy Warhol began to find fame and fortune. Blake was featured in the BBC film ‘Pop Goes the Easel’, before hosting his first solo show in 1963. He finally became world renowned when he painted the artwork for the cover sleeve of the seminal Beatles album ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, and since this period Blake’s works (http://www.collectorsprints.co.uk/artist_page.php?artist=Peter+Blake) have continued to be highly significant and sought after.
In 2001 Peter Blake was invited to curate the prestigious Summer Show at the Royal Academy. He caused uproar when he invited Young British Artists such as Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin to exhibit at the open exhibition, which has been traditionally known as a refuge for more established subject matter
Peter Blake’s fame and his interaction with the iconic world of celebrity, world events and popular culture have been a major influence on hundreds of young artists who continue to fly the flag for British Pop Art.
Top Three Peter Blake Artworks not to be missed!
1. The influential Sargeant Pepper Album cover was recently re-released as a limited Edition Signed Silkscreen print. http://www.collectorsprints.co.uk/item_closeup.php?itemid=15104&artist=Peter+Blake&type=print . The hand-printing process for the Sargeant Pepper limited edition commenced at Coriander Studios London on the 1st June 2007 (the 40th anniversary of the release of the album) supervised by Peter Blake, following his approval of initial proofs. The process involves 24 colour silkscreen being individually applied plus spot glazing to certain areas of the design. Following finishing, a pressure stamp of the Apple logo was applied on the paper margin along the bottom. This Limited Edition is a piece of Pop Art and Music History.
2. In recent years, Peter Blake has famously created a series of works based on found cigarette packets from around the world. Titles including ‘Boule’, ‘Belga’, ‘Fifth Avenue’, ‘Gauloises’, ‘Laurens’, ‘Nazionali’, http://www.collectorsprints.co.uk/item_closeup.php?itemid=11346&artist=Peter+Blake&type=print&only=y ‘Philip Morris’ and ‘Visa’ work beautifully as a series and are stunning in their detail. The silkscreen limited editions of these pieces are meticulous and affordable, many of them sporting silver or gold leaf in respect of the original piece.
3. Blake often works in series, and another stunning series are his collages. Beautifully depicted in pieces such as ‘&’, ‘A Walk In The Tuilerie Garden’, ‘Empire State’ and ‘Deon’, Blake pieces together found memories and remnants from trips and journeys to create personal portraits and memoirs.

Well, the ’87 compilation featured only Billboard number ones. “In the Ghetto” and “Bu… |
