I have a Beales question rearding Mr. Pete Best…?

I have a documentary on DVD and in it there is a game show called ” i’ve Got a Secret” and Pete Best was on it and his secret was ” I left my job 2 years ago, I was one of The Beatles” and once the secret was revealed he said something about how he left them becuase he didnt think they would be as big as the got to be. In my Beatles Anthology book and documentaries The Beatles themselves say that they kicked Pete out so that they could have Ringo becuase George Martin didnt approve of Pete. So what I am asking is which story is correct, The Beatles’ or Pete Best’s?

John and Paul wanted Pete out of the band. They did not like his style and thought he was not a good fit for what they wanted to do. They knew Ringo. Ringo was the drummer for Rory and the Hurricanes. The Beatles had played several times at the same gig as the Hurricanes. Ringo was a popular drummer. John and Paul liked his style better. They had Brian Epstein tell Pete he was out.

I have heard the I’ve got a Secret one and heard Pete’s interview with Dick Cavet. He makes it sound as if he had no clue he was going to be tossed out. I have always doubted that version. John and Paul had some conflict with Pete over his playing. I would have guessed it would be no surprise when John decided to replace him. Back in those days it was John’s band. He pretty much made the decisions. He brought Paul into his band. Paul introduced George to John. George auditioned for John and John brought him into the band. Get the theme of the beginnings. John’s band. John made the decisions.
