How does water, citric acid and battery power shoot up a rocket?
I know that somehow this reaction causes a realease in hydrogen, but is that just the combination of citric acid and water? what does the battery power have to do with it? Also, Since citric acid (C6 H8 07) and asorbic acid (c6 h8 06) are different by only one oxygen, what would happen if you added water to asorbic acid? Would it also give off hydrogen?
How much carbon, hydrogen and oxygen are in acetic acid? And would it be possible to use acetylsalicylic acid?
The idea is to add the acid to the water and then pass a current through the water. The water will split into Hydrogen and Oxygen. The bubbles of these gasses can collected in tubes, the H will produce twice as much gas as the O.
The rocket can be powered by igniting the hydrogen.
I think the citric acid is more reactive than absorbic acid, but any thing will do including vinegar (acetic acid).
