Battery Nec
Hazardous Area Classification….Batteries?
In a Classification 1, Division 2 area, can batteries be installed and operated, or do they need to be issolated? I can’t find anything about it in the NEC. I assume they are ok, since they do create a Class 1, Div 2 area under the right circumstances.
By the way, the system voltage is 12V so there is not a large potential.
Class 1, Div 2 is an area where ignitable concentrations of flammable gasses, vapors or liquids are NOT likely to exist under operating conditions.
Battery rooms, where hydrogen is evolved must be fitted with an exhaust fan at the highest point in the room for it to comply with Cl1, Div 2 classification.
Now to comply with the requirement, the hazardous area MUST contain some type of exhaust system if it is in a room or if outside in an open area it will be OK to install and operate a battery system.
