My son had several of these and experienced the same problem. We found out that several types and kinds of batteries exist which will fit. If the batteries are physically the same size, chances are they will work. Anyway, like yours, one of his remained dark. Close examination revealed a “reset” button, unlabeled on the back which you need a wire like an unfolded paperclip to push. The hole was quite small. When it didn’t come on when the batteries were replaced, I decided to take it apart, which is how I found the reset button. One of his did not have a reset button, but after replacing the batteries, you had to press a combination of the buttons (3 out of the 4 on the front as I recall. This was also the way to “start over” manually.) to perform the reset. If yours does not have a reset button, try combinations of the front buttons and see what happens. I’ll ask the stupid question now; you verified the new batteries are in fact good, right? I’ve bought watch batteries before and there have been several which were dead out of the box.Oh, I also found out the hard way that it is easy to misinterpret the polarity symbols in the battery box and put the batteries in upside down. You did check they were installed correctly, right? Remember, the body is the (+) side and the button is the (-) side.Generally, one goes button up and the other goes button down if there is a metal strip on the battery cover door. Come to think of it, one of my son’s had no metal strip on the battery cover and both went button side down.
