A: Back by popular demand, here are some suggestions from readers on how to replace a remote key at a decent price. If you need a new battery, some say try a jeweler, who might be able to replace it for less than $10. Or change the battery yourself. Batteries are available at Radio Shack and other electronic stores. If you need new keys, try autotranspon der.com to order blank keys for about $13 each, then have them cut from a spare original. A: Your plea prompted the city to check out this area, and you’ll like the response. The city will soon replace missing markers at the edge of the median, add more white reflective paint for better visibility and install a U-turn sign on top of the median opening.
Q I recently noticed people doing surveys at the Highway 101 junction at Yerba Buena Road. Any idea what the survey is for?
A It’s for the widening of southbound 101 from Story Road to Yerba Buena. Utility relocation could be under way this summer.
Q I walk along Niles Boulevard in Fremont, near where there are only two crosswalks around G Street. There is a lot of traffic here, the roads are terrible, and often residents and visitors park on the sidewalk. I understand that the city will be resurfacing the road soon but will additional crosswalks be added?
A Yes. A repaving and streetscape project should create a more pedestrian-friendly environment on Niles Boulevard. Existing sidewalks will be upgraded and new sidewalks will be added to fill in gaps. In addition, curbs will be extended into the street to shorten the distance to cross. And raised crosswalks will be added at Hillview Drive, D Street and E Street, which should slow traffic. Work could be under way later this year.
