What are the best, longest lasting hearing aid batteries?
My hearing aids take a size 312 battery. So far I’ve tried Duracell, Energizer and CVS brand batteries. The Duracell and Energizers are just about neck-and-neck in terms of how long they last (approx. 7-8 days). The CVS batteries aren’t very good though (6-7 days).
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Duracell and Energizer are the best batteries on the market currently. They are still very limited, but advances are coming soon. There have been several recent breakthroughs in battery technology that will slowly filter down to consumer batteries over the next couple of years. These new batteries are much longer lasting, and the rechargeable ones can be charged in seconds. They are expected to make rechargeable electric cars feasible in the next few years.
In the meantime, you have only one other option to consider. You may be able to find the cheaper brands of batteries in bulk at a much lower price than the duracell or energizer. They won’t last nearly as long, but at the lower price you can often make up the difference and still save money in the end. For instance when buying AA batteries I have discovered that at Walmart I can get 24 of the cheap batteries for the same price as 4 of the duracell batteries. This means that the duracell’s would have to last 6 times longer to equal the same cost. They don’t.
If the convenience of not having to change batteries is what you’re worried about, then the only thing I can suggest is turning off the hearing aid whenever it isn’t in use. Turning down the volume might also save a bit of the battery life if you can do so without compromising your hearing.
