batteries direct
Anyone know how to direct wire a stereo unit from the battery?
My son just purchased a 1998 Ford Contour SE. Both the battery & ignition leads to the stereo are dead. The car was previously owned by the city and I believe they mucked it up when they either installed or removed their own radio. Can I directly wire from the battery to the battery and ignition leads on the stereo? What size wire and fuse? Should I use two wires for both of the leads or one with a split.

If you’re just running a CD player, you should be fine with a 12 gauge wire.
I would run wires to the fuse panel, instead of to the battery/ignition switch. This will keep things neater, and insure that everything is fused properly. Just buy a Mulitmeter, and set it to DC volts. Find one that has constant power, and one that has ignition-switched power, and wire it from those.
