If you are a handyman and love the “hands on” approach, then you most certainly own at least one cordless drill tool: after all, who would want to trip over all those long wires all over the place. They most certainly aren’t – the quality of your cordless tool battery charger will determine the life of your battery and you would want to prolong your drill battery life as much as you can – in some cases replacing the battery pack might cost you almost as much as buying a new cordless drill.
So, what kind of cordless drill battery charger is the best for your tool?
You should always consult your specific drill manufacturer before buying a new battery charger – purchasing a cheap charger online might kill your battery faster than you think not to mention the safety hazards involved. The cheap and low-quality chargers’ plastic casings can get heated and melt, which can ultimately set your house on fire. The drill charging can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours and that not only depends on your tool brand and the kind of battery you use, but also on the type of charger that you use.
Fast drill battery charger can shorten that time from a few hours down to 15 minutes and the “intelligent” chargers have a few built-in features that will save you some money in the long run. They have heat sensors, which detect if the battery is hot and if it is, they will postpone the charging process until it cools down; another common feature will shut off the charger as soon as your battery is fully charged. All this will ensure that your cordless drill battery pack can be recharged at least a few hundred times before you have to buy a new one.
A good charger for Makita, Dewalt, Bosch or any of the other good brands batteries will cost you anywhere from $40 to a few hundred dollars, but buying quality drill battery charger means that in most cases you won’t have to replace that battery pack for at least a few years.
