batteries anchorage alaska

My battery froze and was not handling the cold well. Any rocommendations for a good replacement battery?

Does it matter which direction it goes in? How do I tell which is the negative and positive wire when neither is red?
Yes, I am a car idiot. I know to have it maintained and can change my tires myself.
It is the original car battery that came with the car when I bought it new.
I live in Alaska.
So, which gets connected first the negative or the positive? I got both answers.
We are having a terrible cold snap also. It is 74 fahrenheit out there now. I believe you should move south and go to Sears to purchase one of their “Extreme Conditions” Diehard batteries. Also, invest in AAA so they will come out and jump you off when needed. I would be a little afraid of being responsible for telling how to determine which cable is negative and which is positive. Typically, the negative cable connects to the engine near the top and the positive connects to the started solenoid near the bottom unless you have a remote solenoid like a Ford. By the way, connect the positive cable first and the negative last to avoid sparking. If you get it backwards it will spark a lot and ruin everything quickly.
