Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace topped the UK album chart and went platinum in Australia and New Zealand in its first week. The album has been certified Gold in the US, selling 168,668 copies in its first week and is entered at the Billboard200 album chart also. The album gained place in the Modern Rock Chart, with “The Pretender.” This Foo Fighters latest studio album is nominated in a 2008 Grammy for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. Its song “The Pretender” has been selected for Record of the Year, Best Rock Song, and Best Hard Rock Performance.
One can see a different 70s-rock undercurrent in the tracks with early 70’s Zeppelin, late era Beatles, Bruce Springsteen together with loud, powerful and stadium-ready power tunes. Its opening track “The Pretender” is supposed to be a classic with excellent melodies. Other noteworthy track includes “Long Road to Ruin” “Stranger Things Have Happened” “The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners”. “But Honestly” and “Home,” track features Grohl playing piano.
The song tracks like “Let It Die” and “Erase Replace” changes stylistic modes in seconds.
“The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners” is almost in banjo-picking style. The songs in the album are based on Tasmanian miners who were trapped underground and rescued after long two weeks. This sixth studio album by Foo Fighters resembles modern hard rock group. The album is named Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace because of the theme. The record competes for the Most Self-Serious Album Title of the Year award. It has combination of hilarious song like “Let It Die” and humorous one such as, “Erase/Replace”.
This album forms an anthology of excellent new tracks by a great band called Foo Fighters. You can see unique blend of different rhythmic melodies in its different tracks like glam-candy Fighters in “Long Road to ruin,” the Southern-rock stompers in “Summers End” and Goth folkies on “Stranger Things Have Happened.” Dave Grohl, an ex-Nirvana drummer, singer and guitarist has managed successfully to spread uniqueness in whole album.
