After Hewlett Packard and Dell, Acer is the third largest company dealing in computers. Founded in 1976, Acer has the third largest market share in this field. The company offers wide range of products which include desktops, laptops, notebooks, netbooks, monitor LCD, projectors, servers and storage, peripherals, displays and e-business services for government, education and home users. The best known and the most popular product from Acer are desktops and laptops.
Acer markets its desktops in a common series called Acer Aspire. Notebooks by Acer are targeted for more specific and well segmented market. Acer provides many models of notebooks such as Acer TravelMate, Tablet PC series, Acer Gemstone, Acer Aspire series, Acer Extensa series, Acer Aspire Timeline series, Acer Ferrari series, Netbook and Aspire One. Other products offered by Acer such as PDAs with S and N series, Acer Altos series for servers and storage devices, LCD TVs and Digital cameras. Acer offers workstations as Acer PICA and in the field of automotive navigation systems; Acer sells Acer e300 series Travel Companion.
Acer, on constant basis, keep launching new products, relevant to the markets it cater to. Acer has introduced some of the best Netbooks and ultra portable range. New ultra portable Acer Aspire is among the latest products. Other lightweight notebooks from Acer are Gateway EC series and Acer Aspire 3935. Under the multi touch netbook series, Gateway LT20 and Gateway LT30 are excellent products with 2.62 pound of weight and features like WiFi and 3G. Acer products are perfect blend of style and technology but are a bit pricey.
Acer’s low power all-in-one desktops and new Nettops include Acer AspireRevo, eMachines EZ1600 and Acer Aspire Z5600. These machines have excellent multimedia features like TV Tuner, integrated graphics platform and DV/Blu-ray combo drive.
Recently Acer has ventured into the field of mobile phones. It is planning to launch Android based smartphones and it is anticipated that after the launch of these phones Acer would be able to dominate 5% of total markets of smartphone in next two years. Acer smartphones are designed to capture the fancy of most sophisticated hand users. They are designed to make internet experience on mobile more interesting. These use the Android’s operating system which is based on Linux. Though with launch of mobile phones, Acer will be in competition with companies like Samsung, HTC, LG and Motorola but only HTC has still come up with an Android based smartphones till.
