512mb secure digital card
What is the maximum capacity SD card usable in the Vivicam 5385?
The manual says a 512MB SD card is the max. I’m using a 1GB card, and it works fine — to capacity. Anyone know the actual upper limit? Can’t get an answer from Vivitar, except they acknowledge success in using the 1GB card. As you may know, there is now an 8GB SD (Secure Digital) memory card, as well as 2 and 4?
(Answering “It depends how big the card is” makes no sense. (See dictionary: Tautology.) Clearly the max usable GB of the SD card depends not on the rated capacity of the card, but on the design of the camera’s hardware and firmware. But thanks anyway.
Honestly, I’ve never heard of a camera having a limit to the size of the card it can handle. If your 1GB card works, I don’t see why a 2, 4, or 8GB card won’t work. If you want to try before you buy, just take it to any place that sells these cards and see if you can try it out before you buy it. My suggestion though, is to stick to the 2 or 4GB cards so that if something happens to it when you have pictures on there you don’t lose too many. There’s really not much of a price savings on getting the larger cards.
